Snowmass Village Major Addition and Full Remodel

Worked closely with interior designer Kristin Dittmar on the full gut remodel and tasteful addition. Luxury high-end finishes throughout, including all new windows & doors, wide plank flooring, Level 5 wall finishes, intricate wallpaper install, decorative faux work; all new tile, cabinetry, custom steelwork and complex accordion door systems.

Basalt New Construction

Sloping Basalt lot required expert excavation and foundation skills to create a new three-level “spec” home, with detached guest house. Custom flooring, cabinetry, natural stone countertops and large-format tile throughout. House recently sold for record price/square foot in Basalt.

Basalt Major Addition and Remodel

Part-time residents wanted to upgrade their summer home with new custom finishes throughout. Includes all new bathrooms, kitchen, railings, flooring, cabinetry and custom built-ins in various parts of the home.

Aspen Glen Upgrade

Part-time Valley resident wished to modernize his 1990’s "mountain country" home with more modern finishes. Upgrades included new white oak floors, new handrails, modernized and refinished all trim and moldings, new tile work and new painting throughout.

Carbondale New Construction

New-build on last remaining lot in upscale mid-valley subdivision. Custom Al Beyer architectural plans takes advantage of waterfront pond location. Modern farmhouse design with custom cabinetry, wide-plank, white oak flooring, high end energy-efficient appliances and much more.

Aspen New Construction

For those still desiring a classic Alpine log home, this is a great example of an older project we completed from the ground up. Incorporates traditional "rustic" design elements. Energy efficient aspects include ICF (styrofoam block) foundation and 'standing dead' timbers for log construction (no new trees were cut in the build-out of the log home).

Red Mountain Remodel

Long-time Aspen local wanted to upgrade bathrooms and living spaces in his outdated 1960’s cabin with natural stone tile and quartz, repurposed cabinetry and high-end fixtures.

Aspen Junction Upgrade

Quick upgrade of an existing Aspen Junction home to make it more saleable -- after the light remodel, homeowner put an extra $1MM onto asking price and sold the property immediately, proving once again that it pays to remodel if you're hoping to sell at the top of the market.

Aspen Full Remodel

Full remodel of single-family home in Aspen. High-end finishes throughout. Custom-built fireplace, redesigned bathrooms and all new finishes throughout. Extensive landscape redesign including waterfalls and koi ponds.

Planning & Development

The Isis Theater Renovation Project
The Isis Theater Renovation project in 2005 redeveloped the original 1892 H. Webber Building, which received Historic Landmark Designation in 1995. Both Doug Olson and City of Aspen Finance Director Paul Menter worked together to save the theater, partnering with Aspen Film and a private developer to create a complex public, private, nonprofit collaboration resulting in the preservation of the Isis as a four-screen cinema-plex, with two new retail units on the ground level. The project assured 501c3 nonprofit Aspen Film of theater ownership at the end of project financing, and the tax-exempt debt service was paid with lease income generated by the building’s tenants. No tax dollars were used to finance the project.
The Motherlode Historic Redevelopment
The Motherlode Building is seen as one of the most classic examples of Aspen’s late 19th Century Western architectural character and history. In 2007, Doug was responsible for putting together this complicated restoration and redevelopment project from start to finish, working closely with City of Aspen’s Historical Society in preserving this iconic structure. Creating the largest single condo unit ever built in Aspen’s downtown core, the Motherlode’s top-of-the-line finish details and sheer size make it a property that will likely never see an equal.

Silt Riverfront Mixed-Use Project
Working with land planner Land Studio and High Country Engineering on the civil side, Doug is designing a mixed-use residential and commercial project on the Colorado River in Silt. Intended uses are national commercial retail and 106 residential apartment units. Currently working with the Town of Silt to engineer and entitle this exciting project – projected start date for construction is early Spring 2026!”

Top of Medicine Bow Spec Project
Concept only
Doug is currently working on a large single family home project atop Brush Creek in Aspen. The house is in the design phase with notable local architect Willis Pember. The home is scheduled to begin construction sometime in 2025.
Stage 3 Redevelopment Project
The Stage 3 redevelopment project is one of the larger commercial projects to take place in Aspen over the past few decades. In 2009, Doug worked closely with the City of Aspen planning staff on this difficult approval, in turning this outdated triplex theater entitlement into the stately mixed-use approval that exists today.

We start off with an initial discovery call, where we explain how we will deliver the best possible service to you and decide whether we're a good fit for each another.

Step 2

In deciding to move forward we then utilize the latest onboarding construction management software to develop a rough schedule and budget for the project.

Step 3

We then have multiple client meetings to understand the vision and how we're going to get to the finish line, where we will work closely with the architect, designer and/or homeowner to develop the project's Construction Management Plan.

Step 4

We then get to work, turning the vision into reality. Quality control is always paramount in all aspects of the build-out process, checking and re-checking every aspect, every step of the way, ensuring that everyone involved is satisfied with the final product.

Our Story

About Our Founder

Having come from four generations in the construction industry, ID Builders founder Doug Olson has been familiar with high-end custom finish his entire life. After moving to the Roaring Fork Valley in 1994, Doug immediately founded Swedish Painting Company and over the course of the next 11 years worked with some of the top designers in the world in executing complex finishes on a host of custom home and commercial projects in the Aspen area. After building SPC into one of the largest custom painting companies in the State of Colorado, Doug sold the company in 2005 to become a full-time developer and general contractor.

The name ID Builders comes from Doug's philosophy that the design-build process should reflect the identity of the client. The types of windows selected, to the door and trim finishes, to the flooring, cabinetry, countertops, siding and stone materials chosen, should all capture the essence and character of the client.

Today, ID Builders is a close-knit and family-run business with more than 35 years of experience and expertise in the high-end construction industry in the Aspen area. With a deep understanding of all aspects of the design and construction process, Doug and his team are able to give advice and expertise during every stage of the build out, leaving no stone unturned. Doug will guarantee the job is done to the highest standards each step of the way.

Andrea Olson

Office/Bookkeeping Management With over 30 years' experience in bookkeeping and office support, Andrea manages all of the accounting, insurance and compliance tasks at ID Builders. Andrea's depth and breadth of skills in construction administration makes her a valuable part of the team. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and the beautiful surroundings of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Oswaldo Vasquez

As Crew Manager, Oswaldo is responsible for assisting in worker hiring, development and management. Waldo is intimately familiar with finish processes surrounding various trades; and having grown up in Western Colorado, he has close ties to the local workforce.
